Redefining Self-Care: Simple Ways to Show Yourself Love Today
Alejandra Villa | JUL 24, 2025

We hear the phrase "self-care" all the time but often, it feels like another thing to add to the to-do list, or something we need to spend money on. A trip to the spa. A fancy facial. A day away.
But true self-care isn’t about indulgence or expense. It’s about self-love. Choosing, moment by moment, to care for your own well-being with intention and kindness.
Today, on Self-Care Day, I want to remind you that nurturing yourself doesn’t have to be complicated or costly. You can create a sanctuary right at home with a few powerful tools that nourish your body, calm your mind, and uplift your spirit.
Here are some of my favorite ways to practice meaningful self-care—most of them can be done in under 15 minutes, right where you are:
Release tension, soften expression lines, and reconnect with your breath through face yoga. It’s one of the most effective ways to sculpt, glow, and slow down all at once.
Why it helps: Boosts circulation, relieves tension, supports glowing skin, and deepens your connection to your body through touch.
How to try it: Download my free 5-Minute Face Yoga Glow Guide and choose 1–2 exercises to do in the morning or evening. You can even combine it with your skincare routine or a face oil for a grounding ritual.
Start your day with gentle movement to wake up your body and center yourself.
Why it helps: A short yoga flow in the morning can shift your mindset, awaken your body, and set the tone for the day.
What to do: Choose a few simple poses like Cat-Cow, Downward Dog, a gentle Sun Salutation or try my Morning Yoga Flow.
Taking just 3–5 minutes to connect with your breath can reset your nervous system.
Why it helps: Grounding yourself with intentional breath or 5 minutes of quiet stillness can lower stress, regulate emotions, and improve mental clarity.
Try this: Sit comfortably, close your eyes, and inhale for 4 counts, hold for 4, exhale for 4, and hold for 4 (Box Breathing). Repeat for 5 rounds.
💡 Pro tip: pair this with essential oils for extra calm (lavender, bergamot, or frankincense work beautifully).
Why it helps: Face icing is a fast and refreshing way to reduce puffiness, tighten pores, and give your skin a healthy glow.
Try this:
1. Submerge your face in a bowl of ice water for 8–15 seconds. Repeat 5 times
2. Use a facial icing tool and glide across the face in upward strokes
💡 Pro tip: Always follow with toner and moisturizer to lock in hydration.
Why it helps: Encourages lymph flow, reduces bloating, and helps your body release toxins.
How to try it: Using your hands or a dry brush, gently stimulate the lymphatic system to promote circulation, detoxification, and glow.
💡 Pro tip: Do this first thing in the morning or before a shower for best results. Start at your ankles and brush upward toward your heart.
Why it helps: Treat your skin to a nourishing, DIY facial using ingredients from your kitchen. Whether your skin needs hydration, brightening, or calming—there’s something in your pantry for you.

When you feel depleted or anxious, supported poses can help you reset. One of my favorite rituals is a restorative yoga session with bolsters, blankets, and gentle breath.
Why it helps: Restorative yoga activates the parasympathetic nervous system, allowing your body to truly rest and restore.
How to start: Try my blog Restorative Yoga for Deep Relaxation & Better Sleep with a full calming sequence:
